Roomba Error 11
Spread The Love

Roomba is an AI robot vacuum that sweeps homes without our physical involvement through its advanced mapping system. iRobot has enabled the vacuum to inform about errors and faults in form of sound beeps.

What is Error 11 On My Roomba?

For Roomba Other models (800 and 900 series):

Error 11 means the motor of the vacuum has run into errors and it is experiencing a defective Airflow.

For Roomba i and j series:

There is a charging issue where the battery is not connecting well to the Robot vacuum and Roomba is unable to detect the battery.

Key Solution Points:

  1. Replace Roomba Bin Filter
  2. Roomba needs a full Recharge
  3. Need to remove debris from Roomba
  4. Replace Cleaning Head Module System
  5. Roomba device needs an immediate restart
  6. A Reset is required for Roomba

How I Fix Room Roomba Error 11

Check Bin Sensor

Roomba has installed sensors to detect Battery, Bin, and Doc charging stations. Sometimes, Roomba is unable to detect these accessories due to debris stuck in the area of the sensor connecting point.

  • Clean Roomba’s Bin sensor with a Microfiber cloth.
  • Clean the area where Bin sits to ensure dust doesn’t get stuck to the sensor from this side.
  • Take out the bin fully and clean it under warm water to ensure that no dust particles are clogged for a long time.
  • Dry the bin fully with compressed air. (You can use any Dryer)

Note: Always clean small portions of your Roomba vacuum to make it perform well for a long time. Otherwise, dust sticks to tiny hidden areas in the device which cause errors.

Charge Your Roomba Fully

Error 11 may occur due to a mismatched power supply being provided to Roomba through its battery which forces Roomba to operate on low or unbalanced voltage. This is mainly due to low battery charge.

Note: Roomba can automatically charge itself through its base which detects its charging and sets Roomba on a charging session automatically.

But, in other cases, you should manually plug in the Roomba and charge it. Because when you leave it in the room for cleaning and come back to collect the robot vacuum, you see that the room is half-cleaned due to a Charging Error

This is just because the charging was expired and Roomba did not work fully. Roomba can be charged fully in almost 2 hours.

Install the Battery correctly

When you clean the surface of the Roomba charging contacts and wipe the battery points, you may somehow misplace and misposition the battery which causes the Contact points not to adjust correctly, and Roomba charging error 11 arises in this case.

  • Make sure that you have tightened the screws of the Roomba back cover.
  • Make sure that the battery charging points are in contact with the power hub.
  • Make sure that there is no obstruction between the charging contact.

Always use genuine Battery

Don’t ever buy any cheap products/accessories to use with your original and expensive branded products. They will always harm your suction motor which causes Error 11 and you cannot get smooth performance consistently for a long time.

Always use genuine parts, batteries, and other accessories recommended by Roomba. Because local or fake batteries may work for you for a while but the Roomba will soon stop detecting non-original batteries and it may get unknown beeps and Roomba becomes noisy.

Restart Roomba

Most electronic devices work properly when they are restarted after any issue with them. Because, sometimes, there may be a software malfunction that is stopping the device to work properly. if you have an internal communication error in Roomba restarting the device works well.

For S and I series models,

  • First of all, press Clean and hold it for about 20 seconds until the white LED starts spinning wait for a few seconds.
  • Now, let the Roomba turn on and check if it is working properly.

For the 700, 800, and 900 series

  • First of all, press Clean and hold it for about 20 seconds until you hear a beep.
  • Now, let the Roomba turn on and your device will be rebooted.
  • Clean Roomba Apartment Completely

Clean Roomba Fully

If you have not opened your Roomba device for a long time, you just need to clean the whole device completely. Basically, dust and dirt particles stick in there for a long time and they impair and block its working which causes Roomba to not clean properly.

Take a vacuum cleaner and go through all the surface area below the back cover thoroughly. You should clean the sensors in your Roomba properly to wipe out the dust all around. Make sure that you place the wheel back after fixing it in the first step when you are done cleaning Roomba.

Reset a Roomba

Sometimes, a reset completely refreshes the device and removes any unknown errors. So, you can try it to clear Roomba Error 11.

  • First of all, hold on to Spot and Doc for almost 10 seconds until it gets off.
  • Now, turn it back on without the cover.
  • So, you will experience a bigger light without the cover.

(I have done this reset for my model 560 series but it is almost the same for other models as well.)

  • You should leave the button when you hear a special beep.
  • Now, your reset will be completed.
  • Make sure that you keep the Roomba on the charging base for a little longer time.

Factory Reset

Factory reset means that you are about to start a brand-new cleaner that has no maps, no settings, and no customizations. It will remove all of your data saved. But, it has worked in many similar cases, So I recommend it to everyone if they have not got rid of the error after implementing the above fixes.

  • Go to the iRobot Home app.
  • Click on Settings > Factory Reset.
  • Click on Prompt to continue Factory Reset.

Replace Cleaning Head Module

  • First, take the Back Cover off by opening all the screws.
  • Now, open 4 screws that hold Roomba Cleaning Head Module (See in the image below).

  • Take the dustbin first to get into ease and pulled out the whole cleaning head.
  • Now, put in new charging head module into the same spot and tighten all the screws.

Note: If your Roomba is under warranty, Contact iRobot Support. They will surely help you and replace your Roomba cleaning head module under warranty without any cost.

Replace Motor

Error 1 is due to insufficient error from the suction motor. If the motor fan is not working perfectly, you need to change the motor or check it. Because sometimes,

  • There may be a fan issue, or,
  • There is a crack in the shaft, or,
  • Improper electricity supply due to damage in motor wiring which also causes Roomna to stuck.

This is a final task in case of error 11. Make sure that you have tested all the above fixes to resolve the issue. Follow the video below in order to fix the motor.

Contact Support

If you have tried all the approaches mentioned above and you are unable to find the solution, this indicates that the problem is in your device by the factory. You must contact the Official Roomba Support.

They will surely guide you to the best and resolve your problem. You can also ask them about your device warranty and they will happily exchange the necessary accessory.
