How to fix Roomba Charging Error 1?
Wipe Metal Contacts of Roomba
First of all, take a clean cloth that you use to wipe your smartphone’s screen. This is the most effective way of cleaning, you just take your finger and clean the whole surface of charging contacts.
If you are done cleaning the surface, you have to put back Roomba on the charger and check if it stops giving the error and if it is charging correctly. Now, you are good to go.

Clean Charging points of Battery
If your problem has not been resolved, now you have to put in some extra fixes. First of all, you will see four screws on each corner on the back of the Roomba which has placed the battery fixed in its place. You have to loosen all the screws one by one. Screws are not pulled out. They just get loosened and the outer part comes out wholly.
Now, you will pull the battery out and clean its surface points with a clean cloth. You will place the battery again in the compartment. Here, you will see a little brush that you have to hold, keep and pull upward.
Now, tighten all the screws and fit the cover completely. Plug the charger of Roomba with it and check whether it starts charging.
Clean Roomba’s Charger Contact Points
You can take Mr. Clean magic eraser recommended by iRobot which is used to clean the sensors of chargers. You need to wet it and squeeze it thoroughly and then you must plug out the charging cable and clean the charging sensor on the contact points.
Now, dry the wet points and remove all the moisture and plug in the charger back with your Roomba.
Install the battery correctly
When you clean the surface of the Roomba charging contacts and wipe the battery points, you may somehow misplace and misposition the battery which causes the Contact points not to adjust correctly.

- Make sure that the battery charging points are in contact with the power hub.
- Make sure that there is no obstruction between the charging contact.
Always use genuine Battery
Don’t ever buy any cheap products/accessories to use with your original and expensive branded products. They will always harm your device and you cannot get smooth performance consistently for a long time.
Always use genuine parts, batteries, and other accessories recommended by Roomba. Because local or fake batteries may work for you for a while but the Roomba will soon stop detecting non-original batteries and it will not work.

Check the charging cable
Your Roomba power hub/base is connected to the power outlet via a charging cable. Most of the electrical devices in our home stop functioning just due to bad cable which may be faulty or burnt due to a short circuit.
Make sure that the charging cable is alright and that it is connected to your power base tightly. Otherwise, it will cause issues in Roomba charging.
Spring Loaded Pads
They are attached under the contact points of your power base. Sometimes, they get loosed and they are unclean. So, they don’t make the connection with the Roomba which causes the battery not to be detected by Roomba. Even if they are not in the right position, Roomba does not detect the battery.
A few drops of WD-40 or isopropyl alcohol will clean the contact points if they are unclean otherwise, you have to change the points or sprig breaks inside.
Disassemble the charger
First of all, remove the screws from the Roomba charger and disassemble it completely. Now, you will see connectors inside when you open it. You have to push down the connectors with the help of a screwdriver. Make sure, you remove the plug cord before touching the connector. This method is done to ensure there is no corrosion that remains with the connectors which are blocking the connection. Now, position all the connectors and wires correctly.
How to Reset a Roomba Battery
If you are unable to get the solution from all the above-mentioned methods, you must try resetting your Roomba which will surely help you.
- First of all, hold on to Spot and Doc for almost 10 seconds until it gets off.
- Now, turn it back on without the cover.
- So, you will experience a bigger light without the cover.
(I have done this reset for my model 560 series but it is almost the same for other models as well.)
- You should leave the button when you hear a special beep.
- Now, your reset will be completed.
- Make sure that you keep the Roomba on the charging base for a little longer time.
If you have tried all the approaches mentioned above and cannot find the solution, this indicates that the problem is in your device by the factory. You must contact the official support of Roomba.
They will surely guide you to the best and resolve your problem. Hopefully, You will get a new battery.
